Who's the client?

Fenner Plc is a world leader in reinforced polymer technology.

What's the story?

To understand its risks and impacts across the Group’s global operations, Fenner implemented Greenstone to calculate, manage and report its environmental impact. Through the implementation of Greenstone’s Environment module, Fenner now has a transparent, robust and audit-ready process for managing its utility consumption, business travel and carbon emissions.

Following a successful UK pilot, Fenner has implemented a global roll-out of Greenstone to all of its operations, with active users in 80 locations across 16 countries. In addition, Fenner has rolled out Greenstone’s Health & Safety module, providing the Group with an online process for recording key H&S metrics at each site and enabling aggregated analysis and reporting.

Fenner Group HSE Coordinator, Paul Sexton, said; “Greenstone's solution makes the whole process of measuring and tracking our emissions quicker, easier and more cost-effective. We are able to track and analyse our carbon emissions across all geographies, sites and business units within the Group and meet both our internal monitoring and external reporting requirements.  Using the same system to consolidate our H&S data is also a win for the business; saving our staff time and ensuring that we can easily access accurate and timely data in a single solution.”

Who's the client?

G4S is a world leading security solutions group, with over 625,000 employees delivering services to governments and private sector clients in more than 120 countries including operations in Europe, Middle East, Asia Pacific, Africa, Latin America and North America.

What's the story?

G4S has implemented Greenstone’s software to monitor their carbon emissions across multi-country regulatory requirements.

G4S required an easy-to-use platform to delegate data collection to country and operating unit levels across the business.  The data collection process is simplified as environmental coordinators around the world are able to upload data in a consistent format to one centralised place.

Greenstone’s software then automatically calculates carbon emissions at multiple organisational and business unit levels using both the GHG Protocol and, where relevant, national calculation methodologies.  Due to the global scale of their operations, G4S need to be prepared for localised compliance regulations as they come into force.  By working with Greenstone they can keep abreast of regulatory developments and minimise potential compliance risks.

All of this means G4S can apply greater focus on identifying targeted carbon reduction initiatives and local country teams are able to set their own reduction targets and monitor performance on an ongoing basis.

 Sandwell and West Birmingham Hospital
 Sandwell and West Birmingham Hospital

Who's the client?

In support of the NHS’s carbon reduction strategy and the targets laid out in the Climate Change Act, Sandwell and West Birmingham Hospitals (SWBH) NHS Trusthas developed a Carbon Management Plan (CMP). The CMP focuses on measuring, monitoring and reducing the Trust’s carbon emissions 15% by 2016/17, alongside engaging with staff and stakeholders.

What's the story?

To assist with meeting these reduction targets and other reporting requirements, SWBH NHS Trust has implemented Greenstone’s software. The use of Greenstone significantly reduces the burden of data gathering across multiple hospital sites, enabling the Trust to focus on analysing the data and identifying carbon reduction opportunities.

Through the use of Greenstone, SWBH NHS Trust can now upload resource consumption data each month and calculate carbon emissions against a continually updated database of internationally recognised methodologies and emission factors. This has led to the solution becoming the central solution to manage data across all 3 hospitals in the Trust, relieving the administrative burden and enabling the team to focus on analysing results, meeting multiple reporting requirements and achieving reduction targets.

Greenstone has provided the SWBH NHS Trust with a consistency in its approach to calculating emissions. In addition, carefully defining the structure of the Trust within the solution and determining the availability and quality of each data set, has created the robust results required in order to help meet the NHS carbon reduction targets.

This solution can be rolled-out to any NHS Trust or related institution to improve efficiency in data collection, carbon measurement and reporting. It can be relied upon to produce immediate and meaningful results and can lead to an increased level of understanding and engagement in the overall NHS carbon reduction strategy.
